The problem

Tours are not products. A traveller picks an itinerary, then a departure date, then a room configuration — and the money can't simply be taken at checkout, because the booking has to be confirmed with the operator first. Off-the-shelf e-commerce has no model for holding a spot, authorizing part of a payment, and capturing it days later once a human has confirmed availability.

How we approached it

Four decisions that shaped the build.

1
Model the itinerary, not the product

Each tour carries duration, route, destination count, departure pattern and per-market pricing as structured data — so 29 itineraries render from one template, and the thirtieth is a data entry, not a build.

2
Authorize, then capture

The traveller's card is authorized for 20% at booking and nothing is charged until the operator confirms. That single decision is what let a real tour business sell online without changing how it operates.

3
Route by where they're flying from

Visitors from the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK see itineraries filtered for their departure market rather than an undifferentiated list of everything.

4
Sell the flexibility as a feature

Join mid-route, pause for extra nights, or book only part of an itinerary — operator options that were buried in fine print, surfaced as reasons to book.
